Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

No, we don’t work directly with insurance companies and are considered out-of-network providers.

Why doesn’t NeuroSpark Health accept insurance?
We want to protect your privacy. Insurance companies require a diagnosis and access to medical records. As out-of-network providers, your information and diagnosis is only shared with you. You decide if you want to disclose that information to others. Your insurance company can request your records at any time and determine that services are not needed (and therefore not covered by insurance). This may even include previously approved services. Mental health support should be determined based on your needs rather than those of insurance carriers. Working with insurance companies requires extensive administrative time and frustration. Navigating their red tape means less time we can spend with clients, which is really where we shine. Health insurance companies often underpay mental health providers, forcing in-network providers to see more clients to cover their cost of living. This can ultimately impact the level of care they can offer. To ensure we provide the highest quality care and honor our capacities as neurodivergent clinicians, we’ve decided to focus on caring for a smaller volume of clients. This enables us to continue providing the best possible support to our clients, ourselves, and our loved ones. We care deeply about our community and want to make support as accessible as possible. We’re doing this by reserving a select number of sliding scale and pro bono therapy slots, offering group support and coaching packages that are less expensive than traditional individual therapy sessions, sharing free and inexpensive resources, and preparing superbills you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance.
Why are assessments so expensive?
We are disabled, multiply neurodivergent small business owners with years of education (student loan debt), specialized training, and lived experience. Our services and associated fees aren’t a good fit for everyone, but we believe they’re fair. The fees account for our expertise, time spent with clients, time spent outside of session completing paperwork you may need, time spent consulting with other providers, continuing education, malpractice insurance, taxes, and practice infrastructure.
What if I can’t afford an assessment?
Unfortunately, cost is often a barrier to adult autism assessment and ADHD assessment. We understand that our prices may not be within reach for everyone, but we are committed to supporting our community in every way we can. Please check out our free resources for information tailored to a wide variety of needs and topics of interest in our community. Visit ndtherapists.com to explore more options for neurodivergent-affirming providers in your state. While we don’t offer sliding-scale rates for assessments, we do offer a limited number of sliding-scale fees for therapy/coaching services. These options can provide ongoing support even if a full assessment isn’t possible. Community Resources: If our services aren’t the right fit, we’re happy to suggest other resource options in your area
What ‘extra’ things do I get in the written report?
The written report includes detailed information about relevant background information, your current challenges, (optional) information provided by your loved one, results from the assessment measures, autism profile, diagnostic criteria, diagnostic summary (including differential diagnoses), identified strengths, personalized recommendations, and official diagnosis.
Why would I want the written report?
Most of our clients pursue assessment for self-discovery, understanding, and validation. They often purchase the report because they want as much information as possible. They appreciate a written explanation of their lived experience through a neurodivergent-affirming lens and a tangible explanation of their specific neurotype and how their brain works. Clients may use the report to develop the language necessary to articulate their needs and differences to better advocate for themselves. Some clients have chosen to share the report with their loved ones, and others have chosen to submit the report to their employers to bolster their accommodation requests (while omitting sensitive info).
What does the assessment without a report include?
All assessments include extensive information gathering through written and verbal communication, screeners, assessment measures, background questionnaires, a clinical interview with a specialized provider, an official diagnosis, and documentation of the diagnosis.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards and FSA/HSA funds.
Do you offer a feedback session post-assessment?
We offer an optional detailed feedback session with your evaluator. Feedback sessions are $250 per 60-minute session.
