Workplace Accommodations for ADHD and Autism

All People Have Equitable Potential If They Receive Equitable Access.

Because you shouldn’t have to mask your way through work, school, or life

Navigating the world as a neurodivergent adult often means trying to function in environments that weren’t built for your brain, resulting in burnout, sensory overload, and constant pressure to keep up or perform.

Workplace accommodations can change that.

At NeuroSpark Health, our accommodations service is designed specifically for ADHD and autistic adults. We’ll help you identify what supports would reduce stress, improve functioning, and help you show up as your real self without burning out or shrinking to fit in.

Reasonable Accommodations

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), most employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities, including those with autism and ADHD.

Unfortunately, it’s rarely that simple.

That’s why support matters.

Examples of Workplace Accommodations for ADHD and Autistic Adults

Accommodations aren’t one-size-fits-all. The right support depends on your environment, role, and nervous system.

Work Environment

  • Remote or hybrid work options
  • Private or low-distraction workspace
  • Noise-canceling headphones
  • Adjusted lighting or screen filters

Flexible Scheduling

  • Flexible work hours
  • Modified break schedules
  • Task batching or adjusted deadlines
  • Advance notice of schedule changes

Sensory Support

  • Permission to take brief regulation breaks
  • Ability to step away from overstimulating environments
  • Control over temperature, lighting, or sound when possible

The goal isn’t to ask for everything. It’s to identify what actually reduces strain and helps you function sustainably.

Do I Need a Diagnosis to Ask for Workplace Accommodations?

Under the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), employers can request documentation when the need for accommodation isn’t obvious.

If documentation is requested, it should be:

  • Relevant to your accommodation needs
  • Focused on functional impact

Employers generally cannot require full medical records, and documentation can come from a range of professionals, not just physicians.

We’ll help you understand what your workplace requires and ensure documentation is clear, appropriate, and actually supports your request.

If documentation is required or you need more clarity, we also offer comprehensive assessments for adult autism and ADHD.

Our evaluations are affirming, practical, and directly applicable to real-world needs like workplace accommodations.

Support for Workplace, School, and Leave

Knowing you need support is one thing. Figuring out what accommodations to ask for and how to ask for them can be much harder.

When It Helps

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or burned out trying to keep up at work or school
If you know you need support, but aren’t sure what to ask for or how to ask
If you’ve been denied accommodations or misunderstood in the past
If you need documentation for workplace accommodations, remote work, medical leave, or reduced workload
If you want to protect your energy and prevent future burnout

How It Works

Our accommodations sessions are 50 minutes and take place via secure video call.

Most clients get what they need in one to two sessions, but we’ll tailor the support to you.

After the session, you’ll receive:

  • A written summary of recommended accommodations
  • Formal documentation or letters (if needed)
  • Clear next steps for implementation

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

If you’re struggling to make things work in environments that don’t meet your needs, accommodations aren’t just helpful; they’re vital. We’ll help you get the support you deserve.

Client Experience

I recently worked with Jennifer who helped me to identify exactly what supports I needed — and just as importantly, how to clearly articulate them.

Jennifer also attended an HR meeting with me as an advocate, helping to translate and validate my experience in real time.

I felt truly supported by her through this process.

Thank you, Jennifer!
